disassembly completed

Jul 13 update 1.jpg

I’ve disassembled the car to just about nothing. Actually this picture was taken before I’d finished unbolting/drilling out things. The only parts left on the chassis is the engine and headers, steering rack, and steering column. The reason for taking a car that was literally running all apart? A few things…

  • The body we’ll be mounting on this chassis requires some of the “greenhouse” bars to be changed and a lot of parts either needed to come off for their protection or for access to areas to cut/weld.

  • I want to paint the entire chassis

  • I want to insulate the driver’s area properly to make it less blazing hot inside!

From the back things look pretty much like the front: bare! I didn’t remove the rear axle because doing so requires two people, which I didn’t have. Actually, the real reason is I’ll be rolling the car back to AMCM HQ (otherwise known as Craig’s house) and putting tires back on will allow that to happen easily. Note the flat sheet metal area just in front of the left rear brake rotor…that is the battery tray. Yes, that will get cut off and a new battery tray will be added in the same spot…but on the other side of the car. Obviously this car started life turning left.
