The body starts taking shape

Sept Update A.jpg

The AR Bodies camaro is starting to come together on my chassis. I am very excited about how good this bodywork looks and how high a quality the panels are. I’ll take some pictures and do a sort of side by side comparison to Craig’s AR Bodies mustang soon, but they are very different. As a matter of fact, the only common panels between the two are the front windshield and the cowl at the base of the windshield.

Assembly is going much faster than it did on Craig’s car…simply because we are more comfortable with the work so there is a lot less thinking and debating between each step. Oh, that and we bought a pneumatic pop rivet tool. Under no circumstances should anyone attempt to install this many steel rivets with a hand tool!! ha

The most time consuming part is just about at this point in the assembly…the body is able to be hung on the car and has to be set correctly front to rear and side to side in order to enable the doors to be connected to the A pillar base and in order to align and install the nose.

The other thing to remember is there is a ton of flex in the body at this point and that is ok…let it flex as everything will get tightened up as different supports are added. Check out the gap in this picture between the top front edge of the door and the A pillar base. That easily closes by pulling/pushing on the A pillar. Once the door is riveted to the A pillar base the gap and flex in that area will be gone…but its key to have aligned it right so everything fits and looks properly!
