No Bolt Left Unturned

The goal of the past few days has been to completely strip the 002 car of everything and I mean everything. There is now nothing on the chassis that was previously bolted or riveted on. In total this took about two full days in the shop and I was surprised how easy everything was to access and how simple everything was to disassemble. All components removed will be gone through but from first look nothing has any obvious issues aside from a few heim joints that will need replacing prior to reassembly and adjustments to the Emco gearbox linkages.

Trans Tunnel Sheet Metal to Replace & Some Re-welding to do

The disassembly has revealed a chassis in really good condition overall. there is a fairly short worklist of items I’d like to take care of before moving onto reassembly:

  • Re-weld the harness bar (looks like this was added at some point and not fully welded out

  • Replace the transmission tunnel sheet metal beside the driver’s right leg (many modifications over the years has this in pretty poor shape)

  • Weld out an added brace near the main chassis X (looks like a bar was added but wasn’t accessed fully for welding at some point)

Next major step forward is to order a new Mustang body from AR Bodies. Once received the body will be partially assembled to identify the required greenhouse modifications which are expected to include lowering of the halo at the A pillar bars.
